Special Report: Tension accelerates in Iraq

BAGHDAD, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Death toll from a suicide bomb attack in Iraq's western restive city of Fallujah earlier on Wednesday rose to 12 and up to 25 others were wounded, a local police source told Xinhua.

"A suicide bomber wearing an explosive-belt blew himself up among a crowd of people at an Iraqi police recruitment center in Fallujah," the source said on condition of anonymity. Earlier, a police source said that the blast killed at least five people and wounded more than 20 others.

The Sunni-dominated Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, has witnessed sporadic insurgent attacks against the U.S. and Iraqi army forces despite U.S.-Iraqi military operations in the city to stamp out insurgency. Enditem
