HYDERABAD, India, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Wednesday began its 39th annual meeting of Board of Governors in Hyderabad, India, to overview its past performance and make new strategies in supporting the Asia-Pacific countries in their development and poverty reduction.

Over 2,000 people, including finance ministers and central bank governors of the ADB member countries as well as civil society groups and journalists from around the world are attending the four-day meeting held at the Hyderabad International Convention Center.

Development in the region, reduction of poverty in particular, which has been the core mission of ADB, is the focus of discussions at the meeting.

"This is not easy to achieve," said Haruhiko Kuroda, ADB president, at the press conference Wednesday morning.

While the governors of ADB members are to discuss guidance on ADB administrative, financial and operational directions, member governments will interact with ADB staff, non-government organizations and representatives of observer countries, international organizations and the private sector.
