Iran denies crossing border into Iraq
www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-01 21:57:31

TEHRAN, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Iran denied on Monday earlier reports on the entry of Iranian border guards into Iraq through a border point.

"Press reports on the entry of Iranian border guards into Iraq at Haj Omran border point is unfounded," Iran's official IRNA news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying.

The Iranian border guards were "on maximum alert to confront any provocation by terrorist groups and will take any action deemed necessary to enforce border security," the official added.

Earlier, reports said that Iranian troops had opened fire at the Iran-Iraq border region and penetrated several kilometers into the Iraqi territory. Enditem
