Nepali PM urges guerrillas for peace talks

    KATHMANDU, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Newly appointed Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koriala Sunday called on the anti-government guerrillas to come to the peace process.

    "In the meantime the Communist Party of Nepal (guerrillas) has declared three-month ceasefire, I call upon the guerrillas to shun violence and come to the peace dialogue at the earliest," Koirala said at the second meeting of the reinstated House of Representatives (HoR) of Nepal.

    "The desire of Nepali people is peace and the democratic atmosphere is all about an environment whereby people could leave fearlessly," Koirala said, adding, "The process for this has already begun, so let's all of us cooperate in this process."

    He also urged the parliament to take timely decision on his proposal tabled on Friday to hold election to the constituent assembly.

    The new government would work as per the aspirations of the people and the spirit of the recent people's movement, Koirala noted, adding, "The government would soon make public its agendas."

    Koirala also urged the international community to cooperate thenew government in its rehabilitation and relief activities.

    Koirala could not attended the first meeting of HoR on Friday due to his poor health condition.

    Koirala, who was sworn in by the King Gyanendra at the Narayanhity Royal Palace Sunday morning, assumed his office as the Prime Minister in the afternoon. Enditem
