Wang Liqin beats Suess of Germany in semi-finals

    BREMEN, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top player Wang Liqing eased through host Germany's Christian Suess 3-0 Sunday in the second round of the semi-final clash at 48th World Team Table Tennis Championships in Bremen.

    Ma Lin lost first round 2-3 to Germany's Timo Boll.

    Wang took victory in the first game 11-9, but he encountered a hard counter-attack in the second, in which he was trailing behind at the initial stage.

    Wang then rallied to get closer and tie the score 7-7 before losing three straight points at 7-10.

    Despite a powerful cheering audience for Suess, gritty Wang narrowed their distance to 10-10 before clinching the game 12-10.

    In the third game, Wang and Suess staged another tight race, Wang was only one or two points behind before reaching 9-9.

    Germany called time-out when Wang led 10-9, but Wang won 11-9 the game immediately after the contest resumed.

    The two saw seven flat points in the last game.

    Wang's victory helped China boost the total score against Germany from 0-1 to 1-1. Enditem
