KATHMANDU, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The anti-government guerrillas Saturday released eight Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) soldiers in eastern Nepal, a human right activist said.
"The guerrillas freed eight RNA soldiers who were abducted by them on Friday from Leguwa area of Dhankuta district, some 400 km east of Kathmandu," Parshuram Nepal, local human right activist, told Xinhua by phone.
The guerrillas abducted those soldiers when they were heading towards neighboring Sankhuwasabha district, after completing their seven-month training in second brigade of RNA from Ramriththa area of the district, Nepal said.
Nepal said guerrilla's district leader Sonam released the soldiers in the presence of him.
"We had released all the soldiers who were taken in our custody on Friday," Nepal quoted Sonam as saying.
However, Ministry of Defense, in a press statement, said that the guerrillas abducted a total of 11 soldiers though they claimed declaring unilateral cease-fire.
The guerrillas declared three-month long unilateral cease-fire with immediate effect on Tuesday. Enditem |
