Special report: Snap general election in Thailand

;  BANGKOK, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Thai Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and Mahachon Party leader Sanan Kachornprasart said respectively on Saturday they are ready and willing to contest in the next elections.

Abhisit said if elected, his leadership will provide the public a good example of corruption-free government and leader.

"I am willing and ready to be leader of the country. I will lead the country in new style, differing from Thaksin government whose leader could not be good leader for the country," Abhisit said at Democrat Party's annual congress attended by executive members, members and foreign diplomats.

In his hour-long opening speech, Abhisit said his party will focus on "agendas for people" which will ensure that the Thai society and the people have good lives and modernized standard of living.

Meanwhile, Mahachon Party leader Sanan said Saturday that his party would contest in the next election if the April 2 election is nullified.

He said the Mahanchon would accept the rulings of the Administrative and Constitution courts regarding the April 2 election. Sanan also called on the Election Commission to take responsibility and resign if the election is nullified.

The two former opposition parties, along with the Chart Thai Party, have boycotted the April 2 snap elections which called on by Thaksin Shinawatra, the leader of the ruling Thai Rak Thai Party. All the three parties did not send candidates into the MPs competition during the past elections and by-elections. Enditem
