BEIJING, April 29 -- The 2nd Chinese TV Plays Gala was formally kicked off on Thursday in Beijing, with the announcement of the top 50 TV dramas in 2005.

CCTV's heavyweight TV series last year, "Moment in Peking,"starring China's most popular actress Vicky Zhao, beat the 30-episode TV drama "Bright Sword" to win the Best Rating Award.

Other TV plays in the top 50 list also included "The Emperor of Han Dynasty," "Ren Changxia,"and "The Judge of the Song Dynasty".

A grand award ceremony will be held on June 6 to unveil the other categories of awards, including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Drama of the Year.

TV plays are required to be among the 50 highest audience rated programs to compete for an award.
