KATHMANDU, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) has started inquiry into the killing of six local residents of Belbari, Morang district in eastern Nepal by the army men on Wednesday.

The Eastern Divisional Headquarters of the RNA in Itahari Thursday informed that an inquiry board has been set up under Brigadier General Pawan Pandey to investigate the killings.

Officials at the Divisional Headquarters said the commander of the security base camp, Captain Prahlad Magar, has been suspended from his post and that Pandey's team has started inquiry into the incident.

The probe team is set to submit its finding on Friday.

At least six demonstrators were killed on Wednesday when security forces fired in self-defense in eastern Nepal, Ministry of Defense (MoD) said here Thursday.

"At least six demonstrators were killed when security forces fired in self-defense to control an agitated crowd that tried to torch the joint security base at Belbari area of Morang district, some 400 km east of Kathmandu," MoD said in a press statement. Enditem
