Chinese women paddlers enter quarter-finals at world championships

     BREMEN, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese women table tennis players beat their last group rival India at 3-0 on Thursday and booked a berth in the quarter-finals of the 48th World Team Table Tennis Championships.

    Novices Li Xiaoxia and Guo Yan, as well as veteran Wang Nan, all crushed their Indian rivals without conceding a single game.

    Defending champions China finished top in Group A after beatingall their group rivals the Czech Republic, Serbia, Belarus, Romania and India.

    The women's group matches will produce three more winners, who will enter the second stage of quarter-final competitions of the championships.

    In Group B, Hong Kong of China, who suffered only one defeat, 1-3 to France, is expected to finish first.

    South Korea are set to be No. one in Group C as they won over Germany, Italy, Austria, Australia and the Netherlands.

    Japan will top Group D as the Japanese women players beat all their group rivals, Singapore, Croatia, Slovakia, Russia and the United States.

    The four top teams will directly enter quarter-finals, while the second and third teams of each of the four championships groups will draw lots Thursday afternoon to struggle for the otherfour places of the quarter-finals. Enditem
