WASHINGTON, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin has
been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, the club said
on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
The forward played less than seven minutes in Monday's 98-87 loss to the Los
Angeles Clippers in Game 2 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series. The
team refused to comment on the exact reasons for Martin's suspension.
During Monday's defeat, the Nuggets claimed that Martin would not play in
the second half due to a bruised left knee. He had been bothered by knee
problems all season. After intermission, he didn't get to Denver's bench until
several minutes elapsed in the third quarter, and then sat with a towel over his
head.
"This is an internal matter that we will deal with in-house," said head
coach George Karl.
Martin was the number one draft pick in 2000 and averaged 12.9 points and
6.3 rebounds per game this season. He played in the 2002 and 2003 NBA Finals and
2004 All-Star Game with New Jersey.
