WASHINGTON, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Barry Bonds, San Francisco Giants slugger, hit his 711th home run on Wednesday to move within three of Babe Ruth for second place in the all-time record books.

The homer was his second over the past 24 hours after a slow start that had fans wondering whether age and injury had caught up with the seven-times Most Valuable Player at 41, reports said from San Francisco.

The three-run homer put the Giants into a 7-7 tie against the New York Mets, extending play into extra innings. Enditem
