WASHINGTON, April 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President
George W. Bush named the Fox News anchor Tony Snow as the new White House press
secretary, as part of an ongoing shakeup of his administration amid sagging
public approval ratings for his job performance.
At a news briefing at the White
House, Bush said he had asked Snow to to replace Scott McClellan as his chief
spokesman.
"I'm proud to welcome Tony as part of our team," he
said.
Bush said his job was to make decisions and Snow's
job was to "help explain those decisions to the press corps and the American
people."
Snow, a former speechwriter for the president's
father, ex-President George H.W. Bush, joined Fox News in 1996.
He earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy from
Davidson College in North Carolina.
McClellan resigned last week, the latest departure in
an administration shakeup that began with the resignation of former Chief of
Staff Andy Card and the taking over of his position by Joshua Bolten, director
of the Office of Management and Budget.
McClellan had served as the president's press
secretary since June 2003, and news reports said he planned to leave in about
two weeks. Enditem |
