BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday for his first state visit to the west African country.
The following is a chronology of key Sino-Nigerian high-level exchange visits in recent years.
Aug. 26 to Aug. 29, 2001 -- Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a state visit to China, where an in-depth exchange of views with Chinese President Jiang Zemin took place on bilateral relations.
Jiang, on behalf of the Chinese government, outlined a four-point proposal for advancing bilateral ties in the new century. The four-points are sincere friendship and mutual trust, mutually beneficial cooperation for common development, enhancement of consultations and mutual support, and facing the future with a strategic vision.
After the talks, the two sides signed six documents, including a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and a trade agreement between the two governments.
Dec. 2001 -- President of the Senate of Nigeria Pius Anyim visited China.
April 14 to April 16, 2002 -- Chinese President Jiang Zemin paid a state visit to Nigeria, during which he held talks with Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and exchanged views and reached an extensive consensus on further promoting bilateral cooperation.
After the talks, the two sides signed five documents on economic and technical cooperation, water conservancy cooperation, avoiding a double tax levy and preventing tax evasion, as well as medical cooperation, and consular affairs.
Oct. 2004 -- President of the Senate of Nigeria Adolphus Wabara paid an official good-will visit to China.
Nov. 6 to Nov. 8, 2004 -- Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), paid an official good-will visit to Nigeria.
During the visit, Wu met President of Nigerian Senate Adolphus Wabara, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Masari. The two sides exchanged views and reached consensus on Sino-Nigerian relations, Sino-African ties and international and regional issues of common concern.
April 14 to April 17, 2005 -- Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo paid a state visit to China, during which the two sides signed an joint communique and other documents on bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
March 28 to April 3, 2006 -- Nigeria's Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Masari visited China. Enditem |
