Thai deputy PM appointed caretaker PM

BANGKOK, April 26 (Xinhua) -- After the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej clearly expressed his wishes late Tuesday, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) pledged on Wednesday to heed the King' s advice to seek constitutional solutions to resolve the country's political deadlock.

In a rare address broadcast on nationwide television Tuesday night, the King asked the top two courts to help solve the current political impasse. He said that he would not intervene to appoint an interim prime minister as it was undemocratic.

In response to the King's address, Suriyasai Katasila, the anti-Thaksin group's spokesperson and coordinator, said the PAD would reconsider its stance after having earlier petitioned for the Kingto name an interim prime minister.

Suriyasai said the PAD earlier resolved to seek a royally-appointed prime minister in its campaign demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as the last resort as the group believed it had exhausted every legal means but to no avail. The group said they earlier felt that a royally-appointed prime minister was the only option available.

However, he said, the PAD was ready to cooperate with all parties in solving the political impasse. Enditem
