Chinese women's hockey team grabs WC qualifier opener

    BEIJING, April 26 -- The Chinese women's hockey team has triumphed with an easy win over a determined Scotland on the opening day of the World Cup qualifier.

    China did not meet any serious threat as they beat Scotland 2-0 to tie with England and Japan in Pool A of the qualifier.

    England and Japan have both made easy victories over their respective opponents. Like China, neither of them has conceded any goals to their opposing teams.

    China will meet England on Wednesday.

    A total of 12 teams are participating in the qualifying round to fight for five berths in the upcoming World Cup to be held in September in Madrid, Spain.
