UNITED NATIONS, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Tuesday vehemently condemned the terrorist bombings taking place in Egypt.
In a presidential statement read out by this month's Council President Wang Guangya of China, the Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these intolerable acts to justice.
It also urged all states to cooperate with and provide support and assistance to the Egyptian government.
The Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable.
"The Security Council further reaffirmed the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts," Wang said.
Three deadly explosions took place almost simultaneously at around 7:00 p.m. local time (1700 GMT) in Dahab, some 85 km north of Sharm el-Sheikh, another popular Red Sea resort in Sinai, killing at least 23 people and injuring some 87 others. Enditem |
