BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China said on Tuesday that it welcomed Nepal's efforts to restore its social stability as its King reconvened the country's House of Representatives on Monday.

    "We welcome the efforts by Nepal's King and parties to realize political reconciliation and restore social stability," Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.

    Nepalese King Gyanendra on Monday night announced he will restore the House of Representatives which he dissolved in 2002. The country's major political parties consider this a positive move that could help end the unrest that killed 14 people and left5,000 injured since April 6.

    Noting China and Nepal are friendly neighbors, Qin said the Chinese government has always respected the choices made by the King, the parties and the people of Nepal on their system of government and path of development.

    "We would like to see a peaceful, harmonious, stable and progressive Nepal," Qin said.

    The Chinese government will make continued efforts to promote China-Nepal good-neighbor friendship, Qin said. Enditem
