(Xinhua) -- The 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)
wrapped up here on Tuesday morning after reaching consensus on a political
report, major socio-economic issues, and the party construction.
"The congress has agreed to enhance the Party's
leadership capacity and combat power, bring the strength of the whole nation
into play, comprehensively accelerate the renewal process, and quickly bring the
country out of the underdeveloped status ...The congress has made important
decisions in all walks of life for national development, defense and
construction," newly re-elected CPV Central Committee (CPVCC) General Secretary
Nong Duc Manh saidafter the 8-day event's conclusion.
The party attaches great importance to party
construction, promotion of democracy, and intensification of fight against
corruption and wastefulness, he said.
The fact that a number of members of the previous
CPVCC (9th tenure), including members of the committee's Political Bureau, did
not run for membership at the CPVCC, the 10th tenure, proved that the party's
leadership organizations are changing in terms ofhave more and more young
cadres, he said, noting that the congresshighly appreciated contributions of the
members.
"The congress has approved important documents,
including the political report, the report on orientations and tasks for
socio-economic development (in the 2006-2010 period), the report on party
construction, and the amended party's statute, and elected the CPVCC," Manh
said.
At the last working day of the congress on Tuesday
morning, CPVCC member Dinh The Huynh, on behalf of the congress
secretariat,presented results of delegates' voting for major issues.
Huynh said 88.46 percent of the voters agreed with
the party's theme "Enhancing the Party's leadership capacity and combat
power,bringing the strength of the whole nation into play, comprehensively
accelerating the renewal process, and quickly bringing the country out of the
underdeveloped status," and 51.02 percent agreed with the annual economic growth
target of 7.5-8.0 percent with further aim of more than 8 percent if possible in
the2006-2010 period.
Huynh said up to 87.69 percent of the voters agreed
with the party's new regulation, which is mentioned in the amended statute,which
says "party members, who engage in running private business,must typically obey
the law, polices of the state, and strictly obey the party's statute, and
regulations of the CPVCC".
The congress on Tuesday morning announced that Nong
Duc Manh was re-elected CPVCC General Secretary, and the committee's Political
Bureau with 14 members, the committee's Secretariat witheight members, and the
committee's Inspection Commission with 14 members.
The congress was attended by 1,176 party members. The CPV currently has 3.1 million members. Enditem
