HANOI, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC), the 10th tenure, has 14 members, the 10th national party congress announced Tuesday morning.
The 14 members included the newly re-elected CPVCC General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem; Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army Phung Quang Thanh; Chairman of the CPVCC's Internal Affairs Commission Truong Vinh Trong; Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Le Thanh Hai; Finance Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung; Chairman of the CPVCC's Inspection Commission Nguyen Van Chi; Chairman of the Commission for Science, Technology and Environment of the National Assembly Ho Duc Viet; and Minister of Culture and Information Pham Quang Nghi.
Members of the Political Bureau of the previous CPVCC re-elected also included Secretary of the Party's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Minh Triet; Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi and the CPVCC's Council for Theoretical Affairs Nguyen Phu Trong; Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh; and Chairman of the CPVCC's Economics Commission Truong Tan Sang.
The Political Bureau of the previous CPVCC (the 9th tenure) had 15 members, one of them died.
The congress also announced the newly-elected CPVCC Secretariat with eight members, and the CPVCC Inspection Commission with 14 members chaired by Nguyen Van Chi.
The eight-day congress, running on April 18-25, with the participation of 1,176 delegates, on behalf of 3.1 million party members in Vietnam, is to mainly elect the party's leadership board in the new tenure, define orientations for the country's socioeconomic development in the 2006-2010 period, and adopt the party's amended statute.
