Wang Yang drops lawsuit after Guo Degang's apology
www.chinaview.cn 2006-04-25 08:14:09

BEIJING, April 25 -- Stand-up comedian Wang Yang has dropped his lawsuit against fellow comedian and "overnight success" Guo Degang for Guo's slanderous comic routine saying Wang's wife was having an affair.

Wang made the announcement Sunday at a press conference in Beijing after Guo apologized to Wang at a press conference April 19.

Guo said it was the third time he had publicly apologized to Wang and his family. ¡°I had thought to say sorry to them at the beginning. The first time I made a phone call to Wang during the Spring Festival. The second time was during a TV interview I said I wanted to see Wang to apologize, and the third time is today. I hope there will be peace in the stand-up comic circle as soon as possible.¡±

Wang said after Guo's apology, his wife soon asked him to drop the lawsuit. ¡°Since he (Guo) had admitted his vulgar comic routines had hurt other people and apologized, my goal was reached, so I dropped the lawsuit,¡± Wang said. He reminded Guo to speak prudently onstage in the future and expressed willingness to help Guo resolve his other disputes.
