Japan to pay $6 bln for US troops' relocation

    WASHINGTON, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Japan had agreed that Tokyo would pay 6.09 billion U.S. dollars for moving nearly 8,000 American Marines out of Japan to the Pacific island of Guam, local media reported Monday. 

    Under the accord the two sides reached on Sunday, Japan would contribute nearly 60 percent of the cost estimated at 10.3 billion dollars, Japan's defense agency chief Fukishiro Nukaga was quoted as saying. Full Story>>

Japan, US reach cost sharing deal on Marine relocation

    TOKYO, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Japan and the United States agreed on a cost sharing plan regarding the relocation of 8,000 U.S. Marines from Okinawa to Guam, Kyodo News reported on Monday.

    Japan will shoulder 59 percent of the total cost of 10.27 billion U.S. dollars, or 6.09 billion dollars, Japanese Defense Agency Director General Fukushiro Nukaga said in Washington after meeting with his U.S. counterpart Donald Rumsfeld. Full Story>>

Japan offers US$6 bln for U.S. military relocation: report

    TOKYO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo has offered to shoulder 6 billion U.S. dollars, in funds and loans, as part of the cost to relocate 8,000 U.S. Marines from Okinawa to Guam, Kyodo News reported Friday. 

    Japan would supply 3 billion dollars in fiscal funds, in addition to 3 billion in loans to be paid back by the United States, Kyodo quoted sources as saying. Full Story>>

Japan not to accept US military relocation without local consent

    TOKYO, April 4 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) decided on Tuesday it will not accept any final agreement between the Japanese and U.S. governments on the relocation of the U.S. Marine Corps' Futemma Air Station in Okinawa Prefecture without first gaining local consent, Kyodo News reported.
