STOCKHOLM, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Jan Eliasson, president of the United Nations General Assembly, took over as Sweden's Foreign Minister Monday, local media reported.
He succeeded Laila Freivalds, who was forced to resign following controversies about her involvement in shutting down a website that had posted satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
Eliasson was appointed Swedish foreign minister by Prime Minister Goeran Persson on March 27th.
Eliasson will continue to hold two jobs until his UN mandate ends in September, days before Sweden's next elections, the report said. Enditem |
