HANOI, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Incumbent general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee CPVCC) (the 9th tenure) and five other members of the committee's Political Bureau have been re-elected for the membership of the CPVCC (the 10th tenure), a local official told reporters Monday.

"The six members of the Political Bureau, including general secretary Nong Duc Manh, Nguyen Minh Triet (secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Tan Dung (deputy prime minister), Nguyen Phu Trong (secretary of the Party Committee of Hanoi capital), Truong Tan Sang (director of the CPVCC's Commission on Economy), and Le Hong Anh (minister of public security), have been elected for the CPVCC with high voting rates, 90 percent upward," said Dao Duy Quat, vice director of the committee's Commission on Ideological and Cultural Affairs.

On Monday morning, the 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, elected the CPVCC (the 10th tenure) with 160 official members and 21 alternate ones, he said, noting that the newly-elected CPVCC held its first meeting on Monday afternoon, during which it is to elect the Political Bureau with expected 15-17 members.

"During the meeting, the CPVCC will elect the CPVCC's general secretary from members of the Political Bureau. The election results will be officially publicized on Tuesday morning," he said.

The eight-day congress, running from April 18-25, is to mainly elect the party's leadership board in the new tenure, define orientations for the country's socioeconomic development in the 2006-2010 period, and adopt the party's amended statute. Enditem
