Environment official outlines anti-erosion efforts

    BEIJING, May 9 -- A variety of solutions to soil erosion will be adopted in China's worst-affected areas, a high-level environment official said yesterday. Erosion and consequent disasters such as land degradation, landslides and mud-rock flows have affected 3.56 million square kilometres, or 37.1 per cent, of the country's land mass. Full Story>>

Environmental protection important for economic growth

    BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- There's been an environmental accident in China every other day since the disastrous chemical spill in the Songhua River last November, the country's environmental watchdog said. 

    "If environmental protection efforts continue to lag behind economic growth, pollution will become even more rampant," said Zhou Shengxian, head of the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), on Tuesday. Full Story>>
