PHNOM PENH, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Friday denied that his country is considering sending troops to Iraq at the request of the United States.
Hun Sen made the remarks after Friday's routine cabinet meetingat the building of Council of Ministers.
The Premier reaffirmed the stance of the royal government of Cambodia that Cambodia will never allow foreign country to set up a military base on its territory, similarly, Cambodia will never deploy its armed forces abroad beyond the UN's requested mission, which is ruled by the Constitution.
"Cambodia will definitely not sent forces to Iraq, and never consider such request put forward by any country," he told reporters, rejecting the request by the U.S. for non-combat forcesto assist with humanitarian work.
Article 53 of the Constitution states that Cambodia will not interfere any other country's internal affairs, and that it will not join in any military alliance or military pact, which is incompatible with its policy of neutrality.
US Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli asked Hun Sen on April 10 to send non-combatant Cambodian personnel to Iraq. Enditem |
