Pacific Islands Forum calls for calmness in Solomon Islands

    CANBERRA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The Pacific Islands Forum on Thursday called upon Solomon Islanders to renew their commitment to peace in the wake of violent riots in the South Pacific nation's capital Honiara following Tuesday's parliamentary vote which elected a new prime minister.

    CANBERRA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard on Wednesday announced that Australia will send 110 soldiers and 70 policemen to the South Pacific country of Solomon Islands, following violent riots in the capital over Tuesday's parliamentary vote which elected a new prime minister.

    CANBERRA, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The Australian government on Wednesday warned Australians against traveling to the Solomon Islands amid violent riots in the South Pacific nation's capital following Tuesday's parliamentary vote which elected a new prime minister.
