BEIJING, April 18 -- After three years of no film projects since "Baober in Love," Chinese director Li Shaohong will bring a psychological thriller to the screen for Halloween, she announced Sunday in Beijing.

    Adapted from Web novel "Divergence," the new production "Door" will begin shooting Wednesday in Chongqing and finish in June, Li said at the press conference.

    Li said the theme of the movie is a door, an ordinary thing in daily life but wherever people go, they have relations with doors. "Doors not only keep things in but also let a lot slip out," Li said.

    To prepare for the project, Li spent a year studying the thriller. "Nowadays audiences are not easily scared. I originally thought shooting a thriller was not dificult, but as I understood more about the film, I was attracted. The investment is 30 million yuan (US$3.73 million)," she said.

    The project has also attracted well-known producer Li Xiaowan, Berlin Silver Bear photographer Zeng Nianping and heartthrobs Chen Kun and Huang Jue.

    Chen showed his excitement at the press conference saying: "I waited six years for this role. This time I will not be a heartthrob." For the part, Chen has a short haircut, with his head almost shaved. Zeng described Chen as attracted to the project because visual effects are a strong characteristic of Li's film. Zeng said: "When you open this 'Door,' you will see something chilling, something marvellous and something glittering."
