WASHINGTON, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Tommy Haas's hope
for a third ATP title of 2006 was smashed Saturday as a wrist injury forced him
out of his semi-final match against Mardy Fish at the Houston tennis
international championships.
Fish was leading 4-1 when the fifth-seeded German
retired, sending Fish into the final of the 380,000 US dollars tournament.
Haas has won titles this year in Delray Beach,
Florida, and Memphis.
Fish, himself returning from a wrist injury that
forced him to miss much of last year and the early portion of this season, was
in his first ATP semi-final since June 2004 in Halle, Germany, though he did win
the silver medal at the Athens Olympics.
In the final, Fish will meet Austrian Jurgen Melzer
who beat seventh-seeded American Paul Goldstein 6-3, 6-4.
Melzer, who has been 1-8 for the year before this
week, last reached a semi-final here last year, falling to Roddick in straight
sets. Enditem
