The photo taken on April 14, 2006
shows empty buildings in Pripyat, a city near the Chernobyl nuclear power
plant, 130 kilometers north of Kiev, capital of Ukraine. Around 50,000
people, most of them workers of Chernobyl nuclear power plant and their
family members, lived in the city two decades ago. They moved to other
places after the 1986 blast and nuclear leakage at the plant. Ukraine
prepares to mark the 20th anniversary of the world's worst nuclear leakage
triggered by an explosion happening at the plant's reactor No. 4 on April
26, 1986. (Xinhua Photo) |
