PARIS, April 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 150 people were killed after
government troops repulsed rebel's attack on the Chadian capital of N'Djamena,
Chadian Defense Minister Bishara Issa Djadallah said on Friday.
"It's over, with some 200 wounded, more dead and another 200 taken
prisoner," the minister told Radio France Internationale (RFI).
The Chadian army had pushed the rebels back into Sudanese territory from
the eastern town of Adre bordering Sudan's Darfur region, he added.
Intense fighting occurred on the outskirts of N'Djamena early Thursday as
rebels of the United Front for Change (FUC) advanced to the capital in an
attempt to oust Chadian President Idriss DebyItno.
Chad will hold presidential elections on May 3. Deby was expected to be a
front-runner in the race, but the opposition has called for a boycott of the
elections. Enditem |
