ISLAMABAD, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations
Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has announced to end its operation in
Pakistan's earthquake-hit areas on April 20 owing to lack of funding, a UNOPS
news bulletin said on Thursday.
Humanitarian air capacity had remained stable over
last week, however if additional funding was not received, the UN Humanitarian
Air Service (UNHAS fleet may be reduced to four Mi-8sas of May 4, the bulletin
said.
It said that helicopter capacity had remained stable
over the last week. One more UNHAS Mi-8 was redeployed on Wednesday, which has
brought the UNHAS fleet down to 12 helicopters.
Under this revised fleet projection, passenger
flights would continue but on a reduced schedule, it said.
Cargo flights would continue to operate but at a very
low capacity, it said.
The statement said that latest landslides had once
again affected road access in the area of operations.
Many roads throughout the affected area remained cut
off or dangerous because of snow, avalanche, mudslide, landslide, fallingrocks
and erosion due to earthquake damage.
The bulletin said that humanitarian operations were
being slowed by a lack of agreement from the Pakistan Earthquake Reconstruction
and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and the international relief community in
the next phase of the mission. Enditem |
