The Flowers admit mistakes, but not plagiarism
www.chinaview.cn 2006-04-12 09:37:41

BEIJING, April 12 -- The Flowers pop band talked about the plagiarism scandal Monday in a TV press conference after their label, EMI Music, made a public apology last month. Unfortunately, the band did not admit plagiarism yet, only saying they had made a mistake.

The Flowers said: ¡°It is normal for young people to make mistakes, which is a part of being young. As long as they can admit it, they are still good men.¡±

The remarks were made at a press conference for Shanghai-based Dragon TV¡¯s new talent show ¡°Cheer, Good Men.¡± The Flowers were invited to produce the theme song for the show.

¡°We think the theme of the talent show is very suitable for us, so we agreed to sing the song ¡®Cheer¡¯ to tell the audience that when difficulties come, we should go ahead and cheer for ourselves,¡± said Zhang Wei of the four-man band. ¡¡

This was the band¡¯s first appearance since EMI¡¯s public apology March 16. The singers said they were busy doing a new album. ¡¡

However, reporters at the press conference were not satisfied with the answer. They asked why EMI¡¯s announcement of the plagiarism was made without The Flowers.

The band replied: ¡°We belong to EMI which has the right to represent us. The label¡¯s attitude is our attitude.¡±

The Flowers added: ¡°Every song is written by us. Although there are some problems, we just want to make everyone happy to listen to the songs.¡±

The band¡¯s ¡°Xi Shuashua¡± was found to have plagiarized the Japanese song ¡°K2G Run to You¡± on the Sony Music label. ¡¡

EMI Music reached an agreement with Sony to a 50/50 split of the copyright profits from the song.
