Israel to carry out unilateral plan in 2008
www.chinaview.cn 2006-04-10 22:35:34

JERUSALEM, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Israel's centrist Kadima party intended to implement the unilateral plan of further pullout from the occupied West Bank in 2008, two years ahead of the deadline the party set before the election, Ha'aretz daily reported on Monday.

Kadima representatives said during coalition negotiations with the right-wing Likud party on Sunday that Kadima expected to complete the unilateral withdrawal from most of the West Bank settlements during U.S. President George W. Bush's tenure, or by the end of 2008, according to Ha'aretz.

Over the weekend, Kadima leader and Prime Minister-designate Ehud Olmert expressed determination to implement the convergence plan in the West Bank in his first interview with foreign press since his party won the most seats in the March 28 parliamentary elections.

During the election campaign Olmert promised to set Israel's final borders by 2010 by unilateral pullout from isolated settlements in the West Bank but keeping major settlement blocs. Enditem
