UNITED NATIONS, April 9 (Xinhua) -- UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Sunday voiced concern over the recent
upsurge in Middle East violence and called on Israel and Palestinians to
refrain from any measures that could escalate the violence.
GAZA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of
the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) said on Sunday that the group had no plan to
halt rocket attacks on Israel, denying earlier reports on a one-week
unilateral truce.
RAMALLAH, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian
chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Sunday that current Israeli military
offensive in the Gaza Strip is politically motivated to serve Israeli
policy.
"The aim of this escalation is purely
political to oblige the Palestinians to accept an everlasting truce,
accept unilateral solutions and temporary state, borders forever," Erekat
told reporters in Ramallah.
