WASHINGTON, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Serena and Venus Williams withdrew from next week's Family Circle Cup because of injuries, said tournament organization from Charleston, South Carolina.

World number 11 Venus Williams has a right elbow sprain that has forced her out of tournaments for the past two months.

Serena Williams, who was ranked 88th by WTA Tour, has not recovered from a left knee injury that has sidelined her for much of the year.

"It is unfortunate that their injuries have continued to keep them off the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, but we look forward to having them back in Charleston next year," Robin Reynolds, tournament director, said Friday.   Enditem
