Thai demonstrators rally for political reform

    BANGKOK, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Tens of thousands of Thais rallied at Bangkok's Sanam Luang (Royal Square) again on Friday to call for the reform of Thai politics and Constitution.

Thai Democrat seeks to halt by-elections

    BANGKOK, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Former Democrat MP Thaworn Senniamhas asked the Central Administrative Court to prohibit the planned by-elections in 38 constituencies on April 23, alleging the Election Commission decisions violated electoral laws.

    Thailand's new round of general election begins Sunday morning, a poll called by the caretaker prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra three years ahead of schedule in a bid to renew his mandate and defuse the protests. It is the third election after its new constitution was adopted in 1997.
