Palestinian PM to meet with Abbas

    GAZA, April 5 (Xinhua) -- New Palestinian prime minister IsmailHaneya announced on Wednesday that he is scheduled to meet withPalestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Gaza City on Thursday.

    Haneya made the announcement in a news conference following thefirst session of his new cabinet since its swearing-in lastWednesday. The cabinet convened at the same time in both Gaza andRamallah.

    "I will meet on Thursday with President Abu Mazen (Abbas) todiscuss many issues, mainly outstanding issues related to thesecurity forces as well as the budget," Haneya told reporters.

    Following its landslide victory in the Jan. 25 parliamentaryelections, Hamas has been pressed by the west to recognize Israel,renounce violence and respect previous agreements or face a haltto aid. Enditem
