Thaksin to sue anti-Thaksin group's leaders

    BANGKOK, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has decided to sue media tycoon SonthiLimthongkul and 11 others on Monday, demanding 1 billion Baht (about 250 million U.S. dollars) compensation for allegedly damaging reputation of Thaksin and his Thai Rak Thai Party over the so-called "Finland Polt" allegations.

Thaksin declines to say whether to take political break after election

    BANGKOK, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said on Sunday that he will not disclose whether to take a political break after the Oct. 15 election although he has already made a decision on it. 

Thaksin to assume official role on Coronation Day

    BANGKOK, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Administrative Court ordered on Friday to halt the by-election scheduled for Saturday amid current political turmoil.

    The ruling against the third round of elections was made pending a trial urged to nullify the April 2 election.    

Anti-Thaksin coalition set to follow King's advice

     BANGKOK, April 26 (Xinhua) -- After the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej clearly expressed his wishes late Tuesday, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) pledged on Wednesday to heed the King' s advice to seek constitutional solutions to resolve the country's political deadlock.

Backgrouder: Thailand's general election

    Thailand's new round of general election begins Sunday morning, a poll called by the caretaker prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra three years ahead of schedule in a bid to renew his mandate and defuse the protests. It is the third election after its new constitution was adopted in 1997.
