WASHINGTON, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Joakim Noah scored 16 points and eight rebounds to help the Florida Gators to their first U.S. college basketball title in a 73-57 win over the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in Indianapolis on Monday.

Noah, the son of former French Open champion Yannick Noah, alsoset a NCAA championship record with six blocks and was named the Most Outstanding Player.

Appearing in their second championship game 12 years after making their first Final Four, the third-seeded Gators displayed an overpowering offense and suffocating defense.

The UCLA Bruins were limited to 30 percent shooting in the first half as the Gators grabbed a 36-25 advantage.

The lead grew to an insurmountable 47-29 less than five minutes into the second half and made the final lopsided.

Jordan Farmar scored 18 points but Afflalo, the Bruins' leading scorer, finished with just 10 on 3-of-10 shooting. Enditem
