UNITED NATIONS, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The UN agencies have mobilized to help victims in Iran of Friday's strong earthquake, said UN officials on Monday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on Monday offered 50,000 U.S. dollars (41,600 euros) to buy tents and blankets for the survivors of the earthquake, which left 70 people dead and around 1,300 others injured.

Water storage containers and purification units, generators, kitchen sets, tents and blankets, among other items, have been shipped to Iran from UN warehouses in Italy on behalf of OCHA and the World Food Program.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has given 100,000 dollars along with 10,000 blankets and 300 tents to help children in the earthquake-hit areas of Iran while the United Nations Population Fund had allocated 100,000 dollars and the World Health Organization 50,000 dollars from emergency reserves.

The earthquake, measuring 6 on the Richter scale, struck Iran's Lorestan province Friday. Enditem
