US military plane with 17 aboard crashes

    WASHINGTON, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. military cargo plane carrying 17 people crashed early Monday during takeoff at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, U.S. media reported.

    The incident took p lace at about 6:30 a.m. and the U.S. military has confirmed that 17 people were aboard.

    Meanwhile, local officials said some people were taken to hospitals with injuries, but there is no immediate word on fatalities.

    A local hospital said it received about 10 people from the crash, including some who appeared able to walk.

    According to some witnesses, the plane broke into three pieces,with the cockpit separated from the fuselage and left lying at a right angle to the main part of the plane.

    The C-5 Galaxy cargo plane, made by Lockheed, is one of the largest aircraft in the world.

    The Dover base is home to more than 4,000 military and civilian employees, operating the U.S. military's largest and busiest air freight terminal. Enditem
