JAKARTA, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials from Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey grouped in eight developing countries (D-8) will hold a two-day meeting on Monday in Bali resort island, Indonesia, to discuss the framework of agreement on trade, a spokesman said.
"We will discuss an agreement on trade to be signed by the D-8 leaders in the upcoming summit," Antara news agency Monday quoted Herry Soetanto, director general of the International Trade Cooperation at the Ministry of Trade, as saying.
In the meeting, senior officials will discuss trade preferences,among other things, lower import duty concessions for members of the group, the spokesman said here on Sunday.
He said, the meeting will not discuss products as yet, but develop a framework and guidelines on how to lower tariffs.
Leaders of the D-8 countries will hold their sixth summit in Bali on May 12-13, 2006, preceded by a trade expo and business forum.
The D-8, established in Istanbul on June 15, 1997, is a group aimed at developing these countries' economy in the world, creating new trade opportunities, promoting participation in making a decision at international fora and providing better life standard. Enditem
