กก QIAN'AN, Jilin, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Villagers in Northeast China's
Jilin Province returned to normal life Saturday after an earthquake measuring
5.0 on the Richter scale on Friday, as seismological experts predicted no more
destructive quakes in nearfuture.
No casualties have been reported after the earthquake
struck at8:23 p.m. on Friday with the epicenter in Laoyingtai Village located
across Qian'an and Qian Gorlos counties in Songyuan City, about 200 km north of
the provincial capital of Changchun.
The earthquake did not cause casualties because it
lasted less than 10 seconds while the epicenter is 15 km underground, said the
expert with the Jilin provincial seismological bureau.
Local buildings are anti-quake for usually being made
of earth,the experts said.
Cracks can be seen on the wall of a number of houses
in the village and some warehouses have collapsed.
Rescuers set up a few tents in case of more
earthquakes, although the provincial seismological bureau predicted no more
destructive quakes in near future.
The quake has been felt by residents of most parts of
Jilin andsome regions in the neighboring provinces of Liaoning and Heilongjiang,
and the northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Enditem |
