HONG KONG, April 1 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan at around 18:04 (1004 GMT) Saturday.

    According to TV news from Taiwan, the epicenter was initially determined to be near the city of Taidung and 10 kilometers underground.
