RIO DE JANEIRO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Former World Player of the Year Romario will join United States club Miami FC for a six-month loan, the US soccer club said on Friday.

The 40-year-old striker, who claims to have scored 964 goals, will instruct children and adolescents who might one day become part of Miami's main team.

Miami has also signed Zinho, part of the World Cup-winning 1994 Brazil national team alongside Romario.

"Our plan at Miami FC is to build a winning team with international status," said Miami president Julio Mariz. "By signing Romario we have made an important step in this direction.

Romario's debut in Miami will be on April 16, against Jamaica's Portmore United. He will wear the same number 11 that he has had throughout his sporting career.

Miami FC are not involved in the MLS, the main US soccer championship, taking part instead in the less prestigious United Soccer Leagues (USL). Enditem
