GAZA, March 31 (Xinhua) -- At least two Palestinians were killed and 22 others wounded in the Gaza Strip where militants and security forces clashed at a funeral of a militant chief killed earlier on Friday, medical sources and witnesses said.
The incident took place as dozens of mourners were carrying the shroud of Abu Yousef Al-Guga, chief commander of the Popular Resistance Committees who was killed earlier in the day in a mysterious car blast, to Gaza Cemetery to bury him, said the witnesses.
Militants and security officers exchanged fire during the funeral, killing at least two bystanders and wounding dozens of others, medics at Shiffa Hospital confirmed.
Abu Abber, spokesman of the group accused certain Palestinian security apparatuses of being behind al-Guga's death.
The spokesman said that al-Guga revealed two days before he was killed that some Palestinians were threatening his life.
Al-Guga was killed while driving his car heading for Friday prayers at a mosque in northern Gaza City, witnesses said.
Al-Guga has been wanted by Israel and his group was involved in firing a series of homemade rockets at southern Israel in the past. Enditem |
