GAZA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday congratulated Israel's acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on the victory of his Kadima party in Tuesday's elections.

Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported that Abbas held a brief talk with Olmert on telephone from Gaza.

Abbas said he looked forward to work with Olmert in order to achieve just and comprehensive peace for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people.

The phone talks came one day after the new Hamas-led cabinet were sworn in by Abbas.

Olmert's centrist Kadima party won a narrow victory with 28 seats in the 120-seat Israeli Knesset (parliament). Enditem
