BOGOTA, March 29 (Xinhua) -- An air crash on Wednesday killed seven people and injured another six in Medellin, the country's second largest airport and capital of the northwestern Colombian department of Antioquia, local police said.

General Orlando Paez, commander of Medellin police said the one-engine Cessna light aircraft, registration HK2969, crashed to earth due to technical problems, in the Papal and Boliviarian University (UPB) grounds a few moments after leaving Medellin's Olaya Herrera airport heading for Ituango, a settlement in northern Antioquia.

Pilot Hugo Armando Andrade, two child passengers and four adult passengers all died, including an official from Nativa, the air company that owned the vehicle. The five children who survived the accident are being treated in the UPB's hospitals for burns from the fire after the plane hit the ground. Enditem
