WASHINGTON, March 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday called acting Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to congratulate him for his Kadima party's victory in the country's national elections, the White House said.

    During the telephone call, Bush "congratulated Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for his party coming in first in the election" and invited him to "visit Washington at his convenience after he gets the government formed," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

    With 99.7 percent of the ballots counted, Olmert's centrist Kadima party has won 28 seats in the 120-seat Knesset (parliament),followed by the Labor Party with 20 seats and Shas party with 13 seats, the Central Election Commission said on Wednesday.

    The Likud party led by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suffered a major blow and only got 11 seats. Enditem
